Swimming & Aquatics

The YMCA has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. But our aquatics programs extend beyond instruction. We also provide recreational, competitive and specialty aquatics programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, water exercise and therapy, water safety and rescue, and water sports.

American Red Cross Certification Lifeguard Training

If interested in taking a Lifeguard Training Class, please contact the Aquatics Director.

Prerequisites & Pre-Test:

  • Minimum age - 15 years
  • Swim 300 yards continuously
  • Start in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute 40 seconds.

Cost:

  • $250 for members
  • $300 for guest members

American Red Cross Lifeguard Challenge and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Challenge

These courses are designed to re-certify current American Red Cross Lifeguards. Participants must perform required skills without practice to gain re-certification. Participants must bring pocket mask to course.
